DECLARATION ADOPTED BY THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE 23rd SESSION OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD OF WFUCA
CERRETO GUIDI AND VINCI. TUSCANY, ITALY

4th of March 2004

We, the undersigned participants, coming from the five Regions of the world, gathered for the 23rd Session of the Executive Board of WFUCA and the events organized by the Italian Federation and the Vinci UNESCO Club, from 28th of February to 3rd of March 2004, at the areas of Cerreto Guidi and Vinci, Tuscany, Italy, declare :

AS THE MEMBERS OF AN NGO ASOCIATED TO UNESCO, THAT :

Having in mind that a sustainable peace cannot be based except on intellectual and moral solidarity of human kind, giving to our involvement its full ethical value;
Giving our full agreement to the Millennium Declaration adopted by the United Nations;
Persuaded of the necessity to fulfil the objectives of Education for all adopted during the World Forum of Dakar;
Underlining the importance to go from a culture of war and violence towards a culture of peace;
Strongly decided to overcome a new border allowing to go from a society of information to a society of knowledge;
Stressing the importance of sensitizing local, national and international authorities and institutions, the private sector and the civil society on UNESCO's ideals ;

We reaffirm that the significant growth of our movement, and the involvement of the 5000 UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations in carrying out a range of activities with grassroots initiative in UNESCO's fields of competence, can let the World Federation to overcome the new challenges in the world and in our Movement.

AS AN INTERNATIONAL NGO :

Taking into account the History of the World Federation since 1981 and the developments and trends in the world and in our Movement;
Stressing the necessity to reshape our Movement respecting our Constitution as renewed according to the necessary amendments foreseen by the Resolution adopted by the 6th Congress, and face the current priorities;
Welcoming in internal transparency and democratic dialogue any suggestion allowing to strengthen our Movement and its impact;
Strongly decided to constructing the defences of peace in the minds of youth in order to protect the future generations from the blight of war, drugs, illness, hunger and any kind of injustice;

We express our warm thanks to all those who gave us the opportunity to precise the projects of action, activities and meetings of our Clubs or Federation at grassroots level.

AS A "MOVEMENT IN MOVEMENT":

From the perspective of the Resolutions adopted during the 6th Congress in Limassol (Cyprus, September 2003), we are strongly decided to continue our action and :

Correct the unfair asymmetries of our world, the unacceptable inequalities scorning the human dignity;
Fight against ignorance, poverty misery and humiliation, as denials of the Human Rights;
Strengthen our efforts in order to create innovating partnerships which will become active ranges of solidarity;
Respect the "Other" and promote the dialogue that mutual understanding, reconciliation and sustainable peace;
Promote the cultural diversity, of which WFUCA is an alive story.

We wish, according to the decisions adopted in Vinci and Cerreto Guidi and to the projects of activities and meetings foreseen for 2004 - 2005, by our Members at a local, national, regional or international level :

A world free of hatred and war, where ideals of peace, goodwill, cooperation and mutual respect form the basis of the relations among peoples;
A strong, independent and united movement to fulfil its aims and objectives, where the 5000 UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations represent efficient bridges for the promotion and implementation of UNESCO's ideals at a grassroots level
.
