Education in and for conflict (English, French, Spanish)

The Guide "Education in and for conflict", for education in and for non-violent conflict resolution, is published by UNESCO and the "Universitat autonoma de Barcelona" on the occasion of the "International Decade" for a culture of non-violence and peace for the children of the world. This multilingual brochure studies the analysis of the conflict and its non-violent resolution. Three aspects of the non-violent action are more precisely analysed: the "Prevention" (process of pre-crisis intervention) where we can find explanation about communication channels, "Analysis and negotiation" with a study of the behaviour of people during a conflict and "Mediation", section in which is evoked verification and the assessment of agreements. Finally there is a presentation of interesting resources (bibliography and web sites).

Best practices of non-violent conflict resolution
in and out-of-school
(English, French)

This Handbook presents around 15 examples of non-violent conflict resolution in and out-of-school. The case of an Argentinean Classroom is presented in the chapter: "Experiments in conflict management and school mediation". Two groups, having to participate in the end-of-year party, did not agree with each other on the place where the party had to be held. The teacher used the techniques of communication during his lesson in order to solve the conflict.

Human Rights: questions and answers (English, French,Spanish)

The book is divided into 2 parts. The part I: "International legislation on human rights: Questions and Answers" deals with questions such as: "Do the States which are not members of the United Nations accept the Universal Declaration ?". Part II: "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights". All the Declaration's Articles are quoted and explained by some questions and answers. The Article 3: "Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person" is explained by the question: "Are there any international instruments aimed at the abolition of the death penalty?" The presentation of this document is particularly pertinent, since the illustrations allow an attractive reading.
